History of TES, Inc.
Townsend Engineering Services, Inc. (TES) was formed in 1989 as a consulting company to provide design, development and support services, primarily for data acquisition and analysis of mechanical vibration information and servo control. These capabilities are based on over 30 years' experience in the design and support of products and systems for all aspects of mechanical testing including modal analysis and simulation with particular emphasis on data acquisition and analysis, as well as applications support for these areas.
Although our primary interest is still in the area of mechanical testing, the company has, over the years, become involved in several other areas, including VHF and UHF radio frequency design, in particular as relates to data telemetry and communications.
Our design experience includes a very strong background in both analog and digital design, as well as packaging and systems integration, site preparation and system start-up. We have extensive experience working with customers throughout North America, Europe and the Far East.
A short list of some of the products we have designed
• Hardware and software for automated fatigue testing of various components for vehicle manufacturers.
• Systems for automated evaluation and testing of aircraft power train components at the depot maintenance level.
• Systems for remote measurement and monitoring of acoustical data.
• Transducers for the measurement of torsional vibration on rotating shafts.
• Battery operated radio telemetry system for vibration data acquisition.
• Automated test fixtures for production testing of RF security devices.
• Battery operated systems for remote pressure/volume/temperature computation and monitoring of a natural gas pipeline.
• Vehicle-mounted system to monitor height of a large cutting blade above the ground while the cutter is operating and the vehicle is in motion.
• Systems used for acquisition and analysis of mechanical vibration data for vehicle and aircraft testing.
• Timer/temperature/moisture controllers for use in large industrial drying systems.
• Hardware and software systems for acquisition and analysis of manufacturing process data for paper products.
• Several systems for environmental monitoring of computer installations.
• A microprocessor-based unit to replace a complete line of mechanical door chime products.
• Device driver libraries for a major vendor of PC-based analog data acquisition products.
• Complete software systems for point-of-sale terminal/cash registers, including network operations for centralized data management.
• Two US patents relating to the acquisition and analysis of mechanical vibration data.
• IRIG-E timecode generator.
Microprocessors and Embedded Systems Design
Many of our designs have been microprocessor based. These systems cover a wide range of applications, including data acquisition, system monitoring, and communications. This experience has allowed us to develop expertise with many different microprocessor architectures. The following list shows some of the microprocessors for which TES provides complete hardware and software design services.
